Artist Statement

As I am writing this artist statement I do so with a smile, because I have yet to see myself as an artist.  I have long held traditional artist (dancers, writers, painters and film-makers) in high regard because of their ability to express themselves effectively through their art forms.  I find it amusing to compare myself with them because I have yet to create, through a medium, a way to express interests and issues that I find important for the  others to see.  But this will soon change.   I’m choosing media as my forum to express myself but it is only a start; if I was to compare it to a life cycle I would be in the infancy stage of being an artist.  So I will treat this statement as a living document that will evolve as I do.  What my goals are and how I choose to express them today will undeniably change tomorrow as I am exposed to, and educated on, how to use different forms of media.  Being a former inner city kid I see the need for more responsible messages and positive images that would help cultivate communities like mine.  If I can contribute somehow through media to this cause in a large or small capacity I would feel like an artist that has grown up.  So as the saying goes it takes a village to raise a child, it will also take one to raise this infant artist so I welcome you to accompany me on this journey.
